ABOUT PODIATRY

Podology (also known as podiatry in the US, and chiropody in the UK and Ireland) is the scientific study of the morphology and physiology of the feet. It focuses on the entire leg from foot to hip.

Podology has two branches: podological care and gait analysis. It examines the foot according to the patient’s complaints, whether they be epidermal, nail or biomechanical. The analysis aims to understand the origin of the pain in order to treat, reduce or even eliminate the problem.

The profession, which requires a bachelor’s degree in podology, is part of the paramedical sector along with physiotherapists and nurses.
